The Spongebob Movies Review

Back in the early 2000’s Spongebob was the most popular cartoon on T.V. and on Nickeloden. Everybody I knew (including me) would watch the show whenever it was on, so while the show was at the height of it’s popularity Nick released a movie based off the show back in 2004. This was The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, the movie is about after the show villain Plankton( played by Doug Lawrence) steals King Neptune crown he frames it on Mr.Krabs(played by Clancy Brown). So now SpongeBob(played by Tom Kenny) and Patrick(played by Rodger Bumpass) now have only six days to get the crown from Shell City to save Mr.Krabs and stop Plankton’s plan to take over the Bikini Bottom.

The animation in the movie is very nice as its a major upgrade to the of the cartoon’s animation. The humor is still the same as it was in the show at the time with SpongeBob and Patrick’s silly but fun personality’s proving for laughs throughout the entire film. The friendship the SpongeBob and Patrick have in this movie is stronger than ever and they always stick together and support each other throughout the entire movie. Even at times were it seems like the end of the road for them. I’m also surprised that they got actors such Scarlett Johansson who plays Mindy a mermaid that helps them throughout there journey. Along with Alec Baldwin who plays Dennis a bounty hunter that Plankton hires to go after SpongeBob and Patrick, and of course the appearance of David Hasselhoff towards the end. The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie is fun, humorous film that perfectly captures the spirit and humor of the Nickelodeon show and you’ve probably have already seen the movie before reading this.

After the first SpongeBob movie was released the creator of the show Stephen Hillenburg wanted the show to end, however Nick decided to continue the show because of how huge of success it was. So Stephen left the show and Nick made they show without him but the show started to drop in quality. As each new season after the movie was awful with season 6 being the season were they jumped the shark, as Stephen was basically the mind behind the show and he made the show what it was. Back in 2013 SpongeBob’s popularity was at its lowest and it wasn’t the huge money making show that it once was. So Nick brought back the creator to get him to work on a news SpongeBob movie as Stephen himself wrote the movie’s script.

The SpongeBob Movie Sponge out of Water is about a pirate named Burger Beard( played by Antonio Banderas)who finds a magic book that can control stories. So he uses the book to steal the Krabby Patty secret form, this then causes a the town of the Bikini Bottom  to go into a complete apocalypse. Now SpongeBob and his friends must travel to the surface and get back the Krabby Patty secret formula.

The animation for both the underwater scenes and the surface scenes are really good as the animation underwater looks just as good as in the first movie. With the CGI for the characters on the surface moving fluidly and looking just like their 2D counterparts brought to life. The original cast of course are all still playing the roles of the main characters with all of them being great voice acting performances. Antonio Banderas performance as Burger Bread is very goofy and works for his role. The humor is just as funny as it was in the first movie and in the old seasons of the show. With Spongebob’s new adventure bring a lot of laughs throughout. Both the 2D animated and the CGI parts of the movie are both equally enjoyable. There was also a lot of references to pervious old episodes such as the reef blower and the “My Leg” joke. There are a few moments in the movie that may seem to have a bit too much off the wall oddness but there isn’t many of them.

The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie Sponge Out of Water is the best thing that Nick has done with SpongeBob in years. If your a fan of the show or if you ever watched growing up but are hesitating to see it because of the live action parts or because of the low quality of the modern Spongebob seasons. This movie though is definitely worth seeing and even in 3D as the movie’s 3D was quite good.
